  • December 27 - 31, 2000: renowned saxophonist and British jazz legend, Courtney Pine, is to play a series of dates at London's Jazz Cafe.  

  • December 21, 2000-January 6, 2001: a new magical dance adaptation of "A Christmas Carol" featuring narration by  Eric Sykes, at the Royal Festival Hall, London. 

  • December 20-22: Irish family group The Corrs will be performing for three nights at London's Wembley Arena.

  • December 20 & 22: Lesley Garrett-the nation's favourite soprano will be performing a selection of enchanting arias & songs at the Royal Albert Hall, London.

  • December 18: Funk band, The James Taylor Quartet, will be performing a one-off show at London's Jazz Cafe. The quartet are best known for their cover of the theme tune from the hit TV series, "Starsky and Hutch".

  • December 15: Teen idols Billie Piper and Stephen Gately are to take part in "A Sargent Christmas Cracker", SargentCancer Care's annual carol concert, at London's Royal Albert Hall. They will be joined on stage by GMTV presenter Fiona Phillips, "Men BehavingBadly" actress Leslie Ash and 1,000 singing nurses. The concert aims to raise money to support children with cancer and also features Julian Lloyd Webber, harpist Euan Jones and Bibi Heal. Sargent's patron, Cherie Booth QC, will also be present at the concert. 

  • December 14 –18: The International Show Jumping Championships are
    to take place at Olympia, London.

  • December 15: The French circus act Cirque Du Soleil begin their new show "Quidam", at Battersea Power Station. The show comprises of 52 performers from nine nations, who
    dive, plummet, glide and swing from an overhead conveyor 120 feet in length.

  • December 12: Well-known actors including Kate Winslet, Sir Nigel Hawthorne and Eleanor Bron are to give readings at a special charity concert at St Paul's Cathedral. The event, in aid of the Imperial Cancer Research Fund, will feature celebrity readings, Christmas carols, performances from top soloists and mince pies. Starts at 7pm.

  • December 7: The British premiere of  Yasmina Reza's
    new play "Life x3" at London's
    Lyttelton Theatre,  Starring Mark Rylance and Imelda Staunton and directed by Matthew Warchus.

  • December 7: Shakespeare's final play "The Tempest" begins its run at the Almeida Theatre, London.  This will be the last production before the theatre closes for 14 months for refurbishment. 

  • December 6-10: Tennis celebrities are to take part in the The Honda Tennis Challenge at London's Royal Albert Hall. Those appearing include Bjorn Borg, John McEnroe, Pat Cash, Mats
    Wilander, Henri LeConte and Yannick Noah.

  • December 2-3: Welsh pop-singer, and house-wife's favourite, Tom Jones, will be performing at Wembley Arena, London.

  • December 2: A major commemorative exhibition of  watercolors by the artist  J.M.Turner opens at The Royal Academy, London. 

  • December 1: Poet/musician Patti Smith will perform a one-off show at St James' Church, Piccadilly.

  • November 30-December 2: The Royal College of Art's (RCA) annual Secret 2000 fine art exhibition offers visitors the chance to buy an unsigned work for $52- the secret being that you don't know which contemporary artist's work you are receiving until the exhibition comes down.

  • November 30: The renowned classical pianist Vladimir Ashkenazy is to address the Oxford Union. The virtuoso performer will be discussing his work and his life in the former Soviet Union at 8.30 pm in the Debating Chamber.

  • November 29: "Artfutures", a prestigious art fair run by the
    Contemporary Art Society, begins at London's Barbican Center. The event offers visitors the chance to view and buy the best in contemporary art in an informed environment.

  • November 28: American pop-singer Madonna performs her first UK concert for seven years at London's Brixton Academy.

  • November 27-December 2: An exhibition of previously unseen artwork by the late jazz legend Miles Davis is scheduled to open at the Lennox Gallery in London. Over 60 original works by Davis, gathered from private collections around the world, are included in the show, illustrating Davis's interpretation of form, colour and movement in the visual art medium. 

  • November 27: A benefit rock-concert headlined by The Who and featuring other rock greats, is to take place at London's Royal Albert Hall. "Teenage Wards Not Teenage Wasteland", is in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust and will also feature Noel Gallagher of Oasis, and Eddie Vedder of Peal Jam.

  • November 27 - December 2: To coincide with the centenary of Oscar Wilde's death, the National Theatre is scheduled to host a week of Events and Activities connected to the playwright and poet. Highlights include two plays on Wilde at the Cottesloe theatre, 'In Extremis' and 'De Profundis', and a rare performance of the four act version of 'The Importance of Being Earnest'. 

  • November 26: Popular easy-listening singer Engelbert Humperdinck will headline a special Charity Gala Evening at the London Palladium. The event is in aid of the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust.

  • November 25: 'The Treasures of Catherine the Great'-an  exhibition of 500 valuable Russian works of art that coincides with the opening of the Hermitage Rooms at Somerset House. The show will include two magnificent pairs of silver-gilt and parcel-gilt gates made for the monastery of the caves in Kiev in1784. 

  • 24 November: Christies is to hold an auction of paintings by the artist Lowry.
    The collection, originally owned by Lawrence Ives- a life-long friend of the artist, consists of 17 paintings that have never been publicly displayed. The paintings are expected to fetch between
    £12,000 and £100,000 each.

  • November 21: American actress Jessica Lange stars in a revival of Eugene O'Neill's play "Long Day's Journey Into Night", at London's Lyric. The 1941 drama also starring Charles Dance, tells the story of a family living on the edge, with a drug-addict mother, penny-pinching father and alcoholic son.

  • November 20: American country and western singer Emmylou Harris will be performing a one-off concert at The Royal Albert Hall, London. 

  • November 17: an exhibition of David Hockney's etchings & lithographs from 1965-1988 opens at the Lumley Cazalet Gallery, London W1Y.

  • November 17: Nightclub owner Peter Stringfellow is to host a special charity fundraising night at his club.  The event will raise money for the charity Childhope and expected to attend are some of the cast of Eastenders, ex-footballer-John Fashanu and Patti Boulaye. 

  • November 15: Actress and model Jerry Hall is to officially switch on the Bond Street Christmas lights.

  • 13 November: Nancy Cartwright, best known for being the voice of
    Bart Simpson in the popular TV animation series "The Simpsons", is
    scheduled to speak at the Oxford Union. 

  • November 10-19: The London Jazz Festival takes place at various venues throughout the city. The festival aims to promote innovative work by British and international artists and features an unmissable selection of  performances.

     

  • November 9-12: The 2nd London International Tango Festival at Porchester Hall, W2 featuring live demonstrations & music, plus dancing till late.

  • November 9: the Tate Britain at Millbank, London, will be hosting an exhibition dedicated to British artist, William Blake.  This exhibition will feature 200 of the artist's works drawn from private and public collections from all over the world.

  • November 2: The Axa Final Ball, a charity concert taking place at Wembley Stadium hours before the famous venue is demolished. The event has been organised by Sir Elton John and will feature a host of stars from the world of music and sport, who have links with the stadium. The show will be in aid of the NSPCC Full Stop Campaign. 

  • October 31: Canadian contemporary dance company,  Les Ballets Jazz De Montreal, begin their run at the Peacock Theatre,London. The show includes "entre-deux", set to a bleak electronic soundtrack and "Circle Songs", set to a score by Bobby McFerrin. 

  • October 31: British pop singer,  Robbie Williams, can be seen in concert at London's Docklands Arena.

  • October 27: British singer and winner of this year's coveted Mercury Music Prize, Badly Drawn Boy, can be seen in concert at London's Shepherds Bush Empire.

  • October 26: "Painting The Century", an exhibition celebrating the painted portrait in the 20th century. The event features a portrait for every year of the last century and includes work by Picasso, Bacon and Warhol and sitters such as Lenin, Elvis and Thatcher at the National Portrait Gallery, London.

  • 26 October: a new production of William Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" opens at London's Olivier Theatre, directed by Tim Supple and starring  Chiwetel Ejiofor and Charlotte Randle.

  • October 25: Verdi's Requiem at St.Paul's Cathedral-Carl Davis conducts the London Philharmonic Orchestra & Chorus, accompanied by soloists, Elena Prokina, Jean Rigby, Dennis O'Neil and Paata Burchuladze, in aid of Barnado's.

  • October 25: work by artists short-listed for this year's Turner Prize will go on display at Tate Britain, London.  The winner will be announced on November 28th.

  • October 25: Renowned British actresses Felicity Kendal and Frances de la Tour open in the latest production of Noel Coward's "Fallen Angel", at London's Apollo Theatre.

  • 24 October: Style icons and other celebrities are to attend the Moet & Chandon Fashion Tribute, at Planit 2000, London. This year the tribute will honour the charity, Fashion Targets Breast Cancer UK, and will be hosted by Josie Lawrence. Personalities attending include Imran and Jemima Khan, Stella McCartney, Jemma Kid, Twiggy, Amanda Wakeley and Ben de Lisi. 

  • October 24: American violinist Isaac Stern is to perform at a concert to celebrate his 80th birthday at the Barbican in  London.  He will be joined by the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio.

  • October 23-25: U.S. singer/songwriter, Paul Simon, performs three nights at the Hammersmith Apollo, London.  These concerts are Simon's first in the U.K. for 9 years. 

  • October 2,9,16 & 23: Performing Bodies-four films that explore the use of the body in art and demonstrate the influence of 20th century theatre, dance and film on fine art.  Turbine Hall, Tate Modern.

  • October 19: Cinema/UK by Greg Williams- a behind the scenes look at every film made in the UK in the last five years including photographs of Michael Caine, Alan Parker, Ewan McGregor, Brad Pitt and Eric Cantona at Proud Galleries, WC2.

  • October 19: the opening of  'Spectacular Bodies: The Art and Science of the Human Body from Leonardo to Now'- an exhibition featuring 5 centuries of medical art including drawings, anatomical models, instruments and portraits, with work by Michaelangelo, Degas, Durer, Leonardo and others at the Hayward Gallery, South Bank.

  • October 18: 'Telling Time'- a new exhibition at the National Gallery examines the way in which people study paintings with the help of hidden cameras, screens and the unsuspecting public.

  • October 18: former Hollywood child actor, Macaulay Culkin, makes his London stage debut in the play 'Madame Melville' at the Vaudeville Theatre.

  • October17:  Lapada Art and Antiques Show at the Commonwealth Institute, Kensington, London. The event showcases LAPADA, the association of art and antique dealers, with over 100 exhibitors taking part.

  • October 17: John Lennon's "Imagine" piano is to be auctioned at the Hard Rock Cafe in London.  Other items  include Lennon's Ferrari 330GT; a grand piano belonging to Elvis Presley; and a guitar belonging to Jimi Hendrix.

  • October 15: Crouch End Festival Chorus- one-off vocal extravaganza featuring work by composers Michael Nyman, Antonio Vivaldi and Philip Glass, with lyrics by Suzanne Vega and Paul Simon at Sadler's Wells Theatre, Rosebery Avenue.

  • October 14-28: the annual Canterbury Festival takes place in Kent with a mixed selection of music, arts, opera, drama, literature and visual arts plus various children's events.

  • October 15:  The London Symphony Orchestra is to give a performance of the Hector Berlioz opera, The Damnation of Faust as part of the Berlioz Odyssey series, a year-long celebration of the 19th century composer at the Barbican.

  • October 12: renowned American playwright, Arthur Miller, author of  'Death of a Salesman' and 'The Crucible' will be in conversation with the film director, Richard Eyre, at the Lyric Theatre, London, at 6pm.

  • October 10: Fashion show and Dinner in aid of NSPCC- Champagne reception, fashion show and dinner with celebrity catwalk appearances from ballet dancer, Darcey Bussell and ex-boxer, Chris Eubank at Harrods.

  • October 9: American soul icon Barry White speaks about his life and career at the Oxford Union.

  • October 6-8: Canadian Singer, K.D.Lang, plays three nights at the Hammersmith Apollo as part of the UK leg of her world tour.

  • October 5-8: International Festival of Fine Wine & Food-  the 8th annual festival for connoisseurs of fine wine and gourmet food with special guest appearances from celebrity chefs at Olympia.

  • October 5: veteran singer/songwriter Bob Dylan can be seen in concert at Wembley Arena, London.

  • October 3: Former 'Bond girl', Honor Blackman, stars in Graeme Messer's production of 'Mademoiselle Colombe' at Bridewell Theatre, Bride Lane EC4Y.

  • October 2: Daryl Hannah stars in a stage production of the Marilyn Monroe classic-The Seven Year Itch- at the Queens Theatre, Shaftsbury Avenue.

  • October 1: Horse of the Year Show Gala Night-join top celebrities at the finale of this famous equestrian show now in its 50th year at Wembley Arena.

  • September 16-30: 31st Windsor Festival-arts festival with highlights including BBC Concert Orchestra conducted by Brian Kay, soprano Sarah Walker with pianist Roger Vignoles, London Handel Orchestra performing 'Bach by Candlelight', and poet Andrew Motion in and around Windsor Castle and Eton College,  Berkshire. 

  • September 29-30: Ballet for Life -celebrated French choreographer Maurice Bejart presents a dance tribute to Freddie Mercury and Jorge Donn at Sadler's Wells, Rosebury Avenue.

  • September 28: Imperfect Beauty: The Making of Fashion Images- an exhibition exploring the world of contemporary fashion photography including work by Corinne Day, Anna Cockburn, Glen Luchford and Elaine Constantine at the Cannon Photography Gallery, V&A Museum, South Kensington.

  • September 27:  American songwriter,  Joan Armatrading, plays a one-off show at the Cabot Hall, Canary Wharf.

  • September 26: Press night for Andrew Lloyd Webber's romantic soccer-based musical - The Beautiful Game.  

  • September 23-27: London Fashion Week

  • September 23: The Great River Race 2000- a Viking longship and a Hawaiian outrigger are scheduled to be among a fleet of 275 traditional boats taking part in a 22 mile race on the River Thames commencing from Ham House, Richmond at 10.30am and finishing at Island Gardens in Greenwich.

  • September 23: Apocalypse: Beauty and Horror in Contemporary Art- a provocative exhibition of contemporary work by artists including Jake & Dinos Chapman and Chris Cunningham at the Royal Academy of Arts.

  • September 20: American painter- Robert Mangold is set to give a lecture in the Starr Auditorium at the Tate Modern at 6.30pm.  Mangold is considered to be one of the most significant painters to have emerged from America in the late 20th century.

  • September 19: a wonderful exhibition of Rodin sculptures opens  at Coskun Fine Art, 93 Walton Street SW3

  • September 16: Maiden Voyage, New Africa, Fantasy & Fairytale-Herbie Hancock, Youssou N'Dour, Kurt Masur are joined by the London Philharmonic Orchestra for a three part concert which includes street sounds from Africa and stories from the  Arabian Knights at Royal Festival Hall.

  • September 16: Top of the Pops - your chance to bid for historical rock memorabilia including original  handwritten lyrics by Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan and Elvis Presley  at Christie's.

  • September 15: The Mikado- D'Oyly Carte Opera Company production of the Gilbert & Sullivan classic set in Japan.  Previewing at The Savoy Theatre.

  • September 15-17: racing legends-Stirling Moss and Barry Sheene will be taking part in the Goodwood Revival classic car Meeting at Goodwood Motor Circuit.

  • September 15: exhibition of sculpture from the National Gallery's  artist-in-residence-Ron Mueck plus the first gallery show for top video artist-Chris Cunningham at the Anthony d'Offay Gallery, W1

  • September 14: internationally acclaimed tenor and conductor, Jose Cura, performs a one off concert in honor of the composer, Verdi, at The Royal Albert Hall.

  • September 14: Ant Noises 2 - an exhibition of recent contemporary work by artists including Damien Hirst, Jenny Saville and Jake & Dinos Chapman at the Saatchi Gallery.

  • September 10: one-day celebrity cricket match in aid of the Mark Ramprakash benefit taking place at Southgate Cricket Club, Waterfall Road.

  • August 28: Kylie Minogue introduces a screening of her latest horror film-'Cut' at the Prince Charles Cinema, WC2 at 9pm

  • August 25: Opening night for Ken Campbell's ' History of Comedy- Part One: Ventriloquism'.  An enthralling one-man show that traces the history of the art of voice-throwing at the National Theatre.

  • August 25: Jane Asher, top British actress and former girlfriend of Paul McCartney, discusses her career over afternoon tea at the Royal National Theatre's Terrace Cafe, 2.30pm.

  • August 24: Canadian circus troupe-Cirque Eloize start their exciting run of acrobatics, comedy and live music at the Barbican Centre.

  • August 21: award-winning comedy, 'Stones in His Pockets' starts its run at the Duke of York's Theatre.  

  • August 21: Vanessa and Corin Redgrave star in Chekov's-The Cherry Orchard at the Cottesloe Theatre.

  • August 20: Ball Stars - celebrity football match in aid of War Child and Gilda's Club   featuring George Best, Robbie Williams, and a selection of well-known actors and musicians at Fulham FC, Craven Cottage.

  • August 19: Fashion designer, Bruce Oldfield, celebrates his 50th birthday with a retrospective exhibition of his work from 1973-2000 at the Laing Art Gallery in Newcastle.

  • August 15-24: Vaseline Bodies- a photography exhibition of celebrity body parts including photos of Angelina Jolie, Moby, Yasmin Le Bon, Jemma Kidd and Sophie Dahl at the Mission Gallery, Notting Hill.

  • August 14: Bee Gees Special Tribute Concert is at the Brixton Academy in South London.  Can you believe it's only their 40th birthday celebration!!!!

  • August 12: Kevin Keegan and Frankie Dettori take part in the exciting Blue Square Shergar Cup horse-racing team event at Ascot.

  • July 1: Start of the Veuve Cliquot Gold Cup for the British Polo Championships.  The huge society "who's who" event encompasses 40 matches with the final on July 23, 2000

  • July 1: Bjorn Borg, Andre Agassi, Boris Becker, Martina Navratilova and John McEnroe are among 67 past and present tennis legends taking part in a special parade to celebrate the first Wimbledon tennis championships of the new millenium.  Centre Court, Wimbledon at 1pm.

  • June 30: Burt Bacharach and Hal David are honoured at a gala tribute at the Royal Albert Hall.  Performing celebrities include Dionne Warwick, Elvis Costello and Lisa Stansfield

  • June 28 - July 24: Sir Elton John, George Benson, Chuck Berry and Little Richard are among the artists taking part in the Liverpool Philharmonic Summer Pops festival at King's Dock,Liverpool

  • June 28: Rare Impressionist and 19th century art including work by Edgar Degas, Cezanne, Van Gogh, Corot and Sisley are to be auctioned at Christie's

  • June 8: Shirley Bassey, Jessye Norman and Itzhak Perlman will perform at the 8th annual festival at Hampton Court Palace

  • June 3: The annual Biggin Hill Air Fair will be celebrating 60 years of the Battle of Britain with planes and displays

  • June 2: Come to the Llewellyn Alexander Gallery to see and buy 12,000 paintings rejected from the Royal Academy's Summer Exhibition at the long-standing alternative  known as 'Not The Royal Academy'

  • May 26 Dame Elizabeth Taylor is to be Guest of Honour at a gala tribute concert at the Royal Albert Hall featuring performances from Michael Jackson, Charles Aznavour and Tony Bennett

  • May 14: British Academy Television Awards at the Grosvenor House Hotel - of course!

  • April 19-26: The Word: London Festival of Literature. Various Venues. Attracts big international literary names.  Last year included Toni Morrison and Walter Mosely.

  • In April: Kathleen Turner will once again begin work in London this time for the stage adaptation of The Graduate.  Of course, Turner will be Mrs. Robinson! Previews from March 24. West End.

  • April: Stones’ veteran Ronnie Wood launches private member’s club, The Harrington.

  • April 9: BAFTA Film Awards (British equivalent of Golden Globe Awards) Star-studded affair with the reception  at Café Royal.

  • March 31: World Lab Animal Month.  Celeb event scheduled for April.  Check back soon!

  • March 27: Status Quo play Shepherd's Bush following launch of their new album and release of single MONY MONY - remember that one?

  • March: Sees the launch party of The Great Eastern Hotel. This Grade II listed building features 267 bedrooms, four restaurants, three bars. The interior is designed by Conran & Partners, and the public will be able to book later this month. Liverpool Street EC2

  • The spring: Looks set to see a number of new art spaces. The one to cause the biggest stir is White Cube 2. Second gallery for art dealer Jay Jopling featuring the cream of British contemporary artists. 48 Hoxton Square N1
