  • June 30: Jackie Mason - brings his only unique, distinctive and original self-deprecating ? sense of humor to the London stage.  Arguably the funniest ex-Rabbi in town, the supremo of American stand-up (according to many), lights up the Dominion Theatre stage and has his audience in 'stitches' and he unravels many of the secrets of life with his inimitable story-telling.

  • June 29: Picnic 2002  in Hyde Park the unmissable Daina Ross, Gabrielle, Rod Stewart, Ronan Keating and Shirley Basey.  What a line-up!

  • June 28-30: Glastonbury Festival with a 'strongly rumoured line-up' including Orbital, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and many more is  now a must for fans because of the new security fence, new security and and secure transport controls!

  • June 28: Five weeks of Baroque music comes to an end at the annual Baroque Festival at St John's , Smith Square, London Sw1.

  • June 26: City of London Festival: Halle Orchestra and Chorus at one of the best locations in town - St Paul's Cathedral.

  • June 25: Opening night of The D'Oyle Carte Opera Company's production of The Mikado at the Savoy Theatre starring funny man Jasper Carrott in the role of Ko-Ko.

  • June 20: Lucien Freud Exhibition:  The Tate Britain will be presenting the largest retrospective to date of this unique artist, featuring over 140 items of his work including some that have never been seen.

  • June 19: Press night of Andrew Lloyd Webber's latest offering.  The jury will no longer be out on the much hyped and anticipated Bollywood musical, "Bombay Dreams" at the Apollo Victoria Theatre.

  • June 16: London to Brighton Bike Ride.  27,000 bikers get an early start through London and along the country roads  o'er hills and dales - all the way to Brighton for a very good cause, the British Heart Foundation.  Register early if you want to bike in 2003!

  • June 15: Last chance to see Dutch artist, Atelier van Leishout's unique design interiors at Camden Arts Centre, London NW3.

  • May 30-June 14: Myths & Legends - Maestro Vladimir Ashkenazy will be conducting the Philharmonia Orchestra for 3 concerts focusing on the magical world of mythical stories and legends.  Royal Festival Hall, London.

  • May 28: Dmitri Hvorotovsky   (dubbed the Elvis of opera) sings with the St Petersburg Chamber Choir at the Barbican.  Could be unmissable!

  • May 26: Petula Clark goes uptown to the Palladium for her London gig.

  • May 24 - 27: Kylie at the Wembley Arena.  Who can resist that super slick, smiling Aussie who makes us all feel as if we real need some Australian sun , sea and sand to get that body beautiful!

  • May 22: Upfront TV (leading UK production company) throws a 10th Anniversary Party for friends and clients.....   • May 14: The irresistibly cute Enrique Inglesias performs at the Royal Albert Hall as part of his One Night Stand Tour.

  • May 14: Opening of Peter Hall's new version of Euripedes' classic "The Bacchai", at the National Theatre.

  • May 14:  We Will Rock You - Premiere.   Brian May and Roger Taylor of the band Queen - remember their deceased singer, Freddie Mercury in a new musical which celebrates 31 of Queen's hits including Bohemian Rhapsody, We are the Champions and Crazy Little Thing Called Love.    Ben Elton writes the screenplay ... which may take London by storm at the Dominion Theatre.

  • May 11-12: Bob Dylan Live in Concert.  Bob Dylan and his band will be playing the London Arena.

  • May 11: THE final London performance and the 21st birthday of the ever-lasting, ever-entertaining "Cats".  Andrew Lloyd-Webber draws the curtain across the stage of one of London's longest running musicals.  So last chance to high-tail down to the show!

  • May 11: Matisse Picasso - Tate Modern presents a fascinating exhibition that examines the complex and extremely close relationship that these giants of 20th century art shared. 

  • May 10 - June 22: "Homebody/Kabul" directed by Declan Donnellan and written by Tony Kushner (who wrote the award winning "Angels in America") has a short run at the Young Vic, London SE1.

  • May 9 - June 15:   Gwyneth Paltrow performs live on stage in Proof at the Donmar Warehouse.  The David Auburn play already has a track record in the US, both on and off-Broadway

  • May 9 - July 13: Madonna treads the boards of the London stage in Up for Grabs - a satirical comedy by David Williamson.  She plays an art dealer and this marks her West End debut. The hot tickets at the Wyndham's.

  • April 14: The very funny Victoria Wood (could be an acquired taste) and often thought to be the undisputed Queen of Comedy (particularly when she impersonates Queen Victoria) plays a one night stand at The Royal Albert Hall.

  • April 12-13: David Cassidy fans will love their hero as he plays the Apollo Hammersmith for 2 nights.  Perhaps the original manufactured pop idol, Cassidy still manages to pull in the crowds.

  • April 2, 3, 4, 6, 7: Liza Minelli's latest comeback at the Albert Hall.

  • March 31 - April 1: Artangel - best known its innovative support of more controversial art - brings you 'Because I Sing', Alain Platel + the Shout. Don't miss this one-off choral portrait of London on a massive scale.  Because I Sing gathers together voices raised for across the city.  An A-Z of urban choirs - both sacred and secular - raise the roof of the Roundhouse in a theatrical tribute to the democracy and classlessness of singing.

  • March 28: The Monkees in Concert 2002 at Wembley Arena.  Hey Hey we're the Monkees..... and not a lot has changed!

  • March 24/25: 2002 Academy Awards live on BBC

  • March 20: Victorian Racehorse Paintings by stable-lad, John Fredrick Herring go under the hammer at Sotheby's. A must for racing enthusiasts who love to adorn their walls with paintings of winners!

  • March 19: Richard III press night: Kenneth Branagh, stars as the eponymous hunchback king in Michael Grandage production of the Shakespeare play, The Duke of Gloucester plans to hack his way through his relatives to get to the throne.   • March 13: Suzanne Vega, the fabulous Californian singer/song-writer, plays a one-off UK date promoting her latest album "Songs in Red And Gray" at the Shepherds Bush Empire.

  • March 4: Men Behaving Badly , Martin Clunes, plays the completely unlovable Tartuffe in one of the best known Moliere misanthropic comedies.  Joined by the likes of David Threlfall, Margaret Tyzack, Clare Holman, Nicholas Day and Deborah Gillett, this Lindsay Posner production at the National is bound to be one of the season's big hits.

  • March 4: Germaine Greer speaks on something at the Essex Festival.  The theme of the festival is 'secrets', so that's all we can tell you about it.  Except the location!   Stewards Schooll, Harlow in Essex.

  • March 3: Acting is Impossible - An evening with Simon Callow (credits include Four Weddings and a Funeral, and Shakespeare in Love) and Patrick Garland (recent sell out production at the Hampstead Theatre of 'A Room of One's Own').  The two share  recollections and reminisce in a one-off unique performance.  Fund-raiser includes champagne reception and post performance buffet.  Tickets $120 approx.  For more info contact the Box Office at +44 20 7722 9301

  • March 2-3, 2002: Jamiroquai Live in Concert- Jay Kay and the boys will be bringing their brand of funky disco to Wembley Arena for two nights with support from Beverley Knight.

  • March 1-3: The Image Show - speaks for itself.  At the Barbican Centre.

  • February 20: Brit Awards:   For THE British Awards for the best in 'pop' music, The Brits single out both the new and the old with nominations of new artists including Blue, Craig David, Atomic Kitten and Mis-Teq; and of course many of those old familiar die-hards including Sir Elton, Sade, Bob Dylan, Kylie Monogue and Robbie Williams, etc, etc, etc.

  • February 19-23, 2002: Picasso's Women - sensual and intimate theatrical portrait of one of the greatist artists of the 20th century, starring Jerry Hall, Cherie Lunghi and Gwen Taylor.  Production takes place at the Richmond Theatre, The Green, Richmond, Surrey.

  • February 10: RADA Benefit.   The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts is beneficiary to a night out to celebrate the launch of the album "Love Speaks".  A host of  ex-students of the school will be honoring the Bard (Shakespeare) and with the likes of Alan Rickman, Diana Rigg and Fiona Shaw on the album who knows who will turn up.  One confirmed appearance however, is for the finale - a rare reunion on stage for Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart...so for fans of all things Shakespeare and Love, don't miss  out on this hot ticket at The Old Vic, Waterloo, London SE1

  • February 9: Last night of Alone it Stands - or - The Day the Dog Bit Back award winning Irish Comedy has a 50 performance run only at the Duchess Theatre, London WC2

  • Febuary 8: "My One and Only" - Gershwin of course - opens at the Piccadilly Theatre, and starring Tim Flavin and Janie Dee.

  • February 2: February 2, 1602 was the date recorded of the first performance of William Skakespeare's "Twelfth Night" withl Will performing in one of the roles.  The performance took place at one of London's Middle Temple.

  • February 1: Mario Testino: Portraits exhibit opening is a must for celeb and fashion groupies and one of the best photographers of the day. Opening of  Testino's one man show at the National Portrait Wolfson Gallery, London WC2 is the anticipated party of the season!   The exhibition features many never before seen images of the Vogue snapper's dazzling milieu, including Robbie Williams and Catherine Zeta-Jones.  Exhibit ends June 4.

  • February 1-16: The Last Empress - British Debut of the glorious Korean themed musical featuring lavish costumes and eclectic dances about Queen Min whose extraordinary life changes the course of the Land of Morning Calm. Apollo Hammersmith, London.

  • January 31: Carlos Alvarez - a protégé of Placido Domingo, sings his heart out with those well known arias by Rossini, Verdi, Bizet and much more with a distinctly Spanish theme.  Accompanied by the Philharmonia Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall.

  • January 29-February 2, 2002: Hello, Dolly! - BROS Theatre company's sparkling new production of one of musical theatre's best loved shows. The Richmond Theatre, The Green, Richmond, Surrey.

  • January 29: 'Taboo' - by Boy George opens at The Venue, London WC2.  The theme of this new eagerly awaited musical is based around an imaginary? "ultimate 1980's club".  Written by Mark Davies-Markham (writer of 'This Life') with Eaun Morton as the new find in the Boy George role, this quasi auto-biography is a must for fans of over the top "costume dramas".

  • January 28-30, 2002: Brian Wilson in Concert - these dates will be the first ever solo shows for the eccentric but highly gifted former Beach Boys composer.  Wilson will be performing a selection of material from his 40 year career including a number of songs from the ground-breaking "Pet Sounds".  Royal Festival Hall, South Bank, SE1. 7.30 pm.

  • January 28:  The actress Susannah York presents The Loves of Shakespeare's Women, her anthology of the bard's multifarious female characters - each speaking her mind about the different aspects of love. 6pm, Cottesloe, 45 mins approx.

  • January 26 - February 2: A Week of Free Will.  Free Admission to Shakespeare's Globe Exhibition to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the first recorded performance of William Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night".

  • January 25 - April 13: The Island - Theatre production that offers an account of life in the notorious Robben Island prison in South Africa, where Nelson Mandela spent many years incarcerated.  Old Vic, London.

  • January 25 - February 10: Celebrates the 400th Anniversary of the first recorded performance of William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night.  Will took part in the show which was staged at Middle Temple - home to part of the English Legal System.  The 2002 one-off celebration season is sold-out....but for those in high places, you never know...... The Globe Theatre Company is performing in this wonderful historic setting.

  • January 24: Opening of Linda McCartney: Light from Within.  An exhibition for McCartney who was always a photographer.  Accompanying a book of the same name, this exhibit is a celebration of her work including the famous, friends and family and her love of nature and animals.   Runs until March 1 at Hacklebury Fine Art, London W8.

  • January 23- 24: Monologue by Harold Pinter -"I think I'll nip down to the games room. Stretch my legs. Have a game of ping pong. What about you? Fancy a game? How would you like a categorical thrashing?" A rare chance to see this striking piece, performed by Henry Woolf. 6pm, Cottesloe, 45 mins approx.

  • January 20: First day of the best Harrods Sale of the year!

  • January 18-20: John's Earbox-The Music of John Adams:  a weekend dedicated to one of America's finest contemporary composers.  Highlights include two concerts conducted by Adams, talks, a documentary, and a film screening featuring a soundtrack by the composer.   Takes place at The Barbican.

  • January 17 - April 1: Paul Klee: the Nature of Creation is on the list of one of the must-see exhibits of 2002.   At the Hayward Gallery, South Bank, London SE1, and curated by Bridget Riley (artist) who took her creative inspiration from Klee, this represents the rebirth of an artist who according many has been invisible recently in a spectators slump.

  • January 17: Concert for A Landmine Free World: Emmylou Harris started these concerts in 1999 and the 2002 concert is a European first.  The impressive line-up includes Harris, Steve Earle, John Prine, Elvis Costello and many more.  Proceeds go to the Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation's campaign to raise public awareness of the global landmine crisis.  The concert takes place at the Hammersmith Apollo, London W6.  Contact +1870 606 3400 for tickets.

  • January 4: Opening of Nobody Somebody - Robbie Williams film documentary shows the star touring Europe; loads of concert footage; and an insight into the whole big star 'let's film the tour' process?
