  • December 27 - February 9: Alone it Stands - or - The Day the Dog Bit Back award winning Irish Comedy has a 50 performance run only at the Duchess Theatre, London WC2

  • December 21 - January 2: The Mini Tree - a Christmas Tree with a difference - is 50 foot tall and travels up and down the Thams.  It's made from 12 real live size fibre glass Mini cars and represents the 12 days of Christmas.

  • December 16: Bjork in Concert.  The Icelandic pop legend will be performing material from her recent "Vespertine" album along with a choir of 15 Innuit women.  Royal Albert Hall, WC2.

  • December 15: Pacha London's Opening - Ibiza's oldest and most popular night-club opens its London branch at the site of the old SW1 Club, in Victoria. 

  • December 8: Kiri Te Kanawa in Concert - the legendary soprano will be performing a programme of works including Mozart, Handel, Vivaldi and Strauss, accompanied by Julian Reynolds on piano.  Barbican Hall, London.

  • December 6: Harry Potter Illustrations Auction - auction featuring watercolour illustrations by artist Cliff Wright taken from Harry Potter novel, "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" will go on sale at Christie's in South Kensington.  The highlight of the sale is the front and back cover illustrations expected to fetch over £50,000.

  • December 5:  Health Unlimited Celebrity Carol Concert - top TV news reporter John Simpson, having returned from his time in Afghanistan, will be taking part in this celebrity carol concert benefit.  The event also features: Robert Lindsay, Juliet Stevenson, Joanna Trollope and Martin Bashir.  Takes place at Southwark Cathedral, SE1. 7pm.   • December 4-7:   Carols & Christmas Songs Concert - The Bank of England Museum will be presenting a series of free lunch-time Christmas concerts featuring choirs from four schools from the London borough.   • December 1 -April 28, 2002:  The Spanish Civil War: Dreams & Nightmares- The UK's first major exhibition exploring the Spanish Civil War. Focusing on the experiences of soldiers and civilians and the impact the war had on artists and writers.  The Imperial War Museum, Lambeth Road, London.

  • December 1: Theater Royal, Stratford East reopens after a £7m refurbishment.  The work has taken four years to complete and makes way for a diverse selection of productions including the pantomime "Aladin", and a musical reworking of a 1950's Indian film.

  • December 1, 2001 - April 30, 2002: Sustaining Beauty - 90 Years of Art in Engineering -This exhibition demonstrates how the Alfa Romeo car has evolved in the past 90 years, documenting progress made in engineering, safety, performance and style.  The Science Museum, South Kensington, London.

  • December 1: The New York Festival of Song- concert featuring a programme of songs by 'the greatest unknown lyricist in American song'-PG Wodehouse.  The concert will be performed by soprano -Sylvia McNair , tenor- Hal Cazalet and pianist- Steven Blier.  Wigmore Hall, 36 Wigmore Street, London.

  • November 27 - January 13:  Mark Wallinger-"No Man's Land" -An exhibition of installations and sculpture  from the artist who was chosen to represent Britain at this year's Venice Biennale. Whitechapel Art Gallery, E1, London.

  • November 27: Gypsy Tango Pasion- A unique and explosive fusion inspired by music from the back streets and bordellos of Argentina and the gypsy encampments of Eastern Europe brought together in a stunning display of dance and music.  St. Martin-in-the-Fields, Trafalgar Square.

  • November 27: Auction of Classic Toy Cars - Christie's will be auctioning Australian classic car dealer, Ian Cummins' collection of classic minitures worth  over £80,000.   Christie's, South Kensington, London.

  • November 21-December 2nd: RCA Secret - this exhibition / art sale, currently in its 8th year, features hundreds of original postcards created by both top-name artists as well as emerging ones.  The postcards are displayed and sold as anonymous works of art for £35 each.  Buyers do not know which artist is responsible for which card until after the purchase.  Artists including Damien Hirst, Anish Kapoor and Nick Park (Wallace & Grommit) have all contributed work.  Takes place at Royal College of Art, Kensington Gore, SW7.

  • November 27: David Essex - The Wonderful Tour, reminds us of the good old days - at the Royal Albert Hall.  Expect a blue-rinse following with a few loyal celebs in tow!

  • November 26: The Evening Standard Theatre Awards.  Star-studded highlight of London theatre's year. The brightest and best stars of the West End are in line to carry off one of the coveted Evening Standard Theatre Awards for 2001. Takes place at the Savoy Hotel, London.

  • November 26: fundraiser/Royal Variety Performance.   • November 7: Concorde to Resume Cross-Atlantic Service - British Airways and Air-France have set the date for the re-introduction of their supersonic passenger service following the completion of safety modifications on the Concorde fleet.  The entire fleet has been grounded since last summer.

  • October 23, 2001 - 26 January, 2002: Star Quality - 70's British television legend, Penelope Keith, returns to London's West End after an absence of over a decade.  Keith, probably better known for her sit-coms, "The Good Life" and "To the Manor Born", will star in this production of Noel Coward's wickedly funny play "Star Quality" at the Apollo Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue.

  • October 16: Jitney press night.  Linda Powell, daughter of US Secretary of State Colin Powell, stars in off-Broadway production by award-winning playwright August Wilson, at the Lyttelton, National Theatre, South Bank, SE1. The play tells the story of the men who drive for a Jinty in 1970s Pittsburgh (a Jitney is the American name for an unlicensed cab company that serves the local community). Runs October 11 to November 21.

  • July 2:  gala preview of the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show with Jamie Oliver, Raymond Blanc, Sir Steve Redgrave, chefs and champion rower respectively attending the  fundraiser at Hampton Court Palace Park, Surrey, 7pm. Evening includes super-sprint rowing, and Diva Opera’s performance of Don Giovanni on the Thames, plus fireworks, entertainers and lots of beautiful bloomers.
